Creating a Southeast Project Common Interest group on Facebook.
If you need specific instructions on how to start a group on Facebook, please check out this Facebook help page.
The following are instructions for Common Interest Groups at Southeast and the settings for your Facebook group.
First and foremost, please ensure the title of your group starts with “Southeast” followed by the name of the group. For example “Southeast Bookclub” or “Southeast Runners”
Once you have the name ensure the settings for your group match the settings shown in Figure 1 below. Ensure the privacy is set to “closed” and not “public” so people can find the group but not see posts unless they are in the group. Posting permissions and membership approval is up to whomever is maintaining the group. The below settings are simply an example.
Provide a description of what the group is so that those interested know what they are joining. For example if you are in the “Southeast Cycling” group and you want that group to ride at a pace of 16mph please ensure you put that in the description. Put Family friendly or adults only as well to help ensure folks understand what the group is and what the expectations are.
Please note that we encourage you to allow non Southeast members to also join your groups. We ask that you indeed know the folks before adding them to the group but by no means should we exclude friends and family that may not go to Southeast.
Along with this document we will create a banner for your group to use as well. This ensures a common look across all groups.
Lastly, thank you for setting up a group and sharing your interest with the rest of the Southeast family. This helps us grow as a church within our community and helps newcomers feel more at home. If you have any questions please contact the connections team by clicking here.
